Working with conservation and heritage guidelines > This project involved designing a 2-storey terrace in heritage-listed St Vincent Place, Albert Park - the only new residence to be constructed there since the 1970's. Approvals from Port Phillip Council and Heritage Victoria were successfully achieved with a contemporary reinterpretation of elements of Victorian architecture

Respecting industrial origins > This project involved transforming a 1960's warehouse into contemporary residential apartments. Pre-stressed concrete beams that suspended the existing concrete floor created strong visual rhythm and were retained. A row of steel 'portals' marks the line of the original facade and supports climbing deciduous vines

Capturing Elwood's seaside spirit > These 4 townhouses have been designed to reflect the area's marine inspired apartments. Brightly coloured spiral stairs rise through central courtyards to roof decks. Plans have been manipulated to capture the north sun and maximise cross ventilation, minimising the need for air conditioning and artificial lighting

A hybrid residential development > Located on a challenging triangular site, this project includes a 3-storey building of single level apartments on the corner, stepping down to 2-storey townhouses at the boundary adjoining a residential neighbourhood. A small commercial tenancy at the apex of the triangle creates an active frontage at street level

> he project aimed to facilitate a sense of community within the development and to integrate with the existing neighbourhood. The small café, creating activity at street level is located next to the entry walkway to maximize opportunities for interaction. Balconies overlook the walkway for improved security, and building access is split into 3 circulation zones to reduce corridor lengths with a maximum of 5 apartment entries per floor from each access point. A communal garden was created along the northern boundary beneath a row of established trees that were kept to maintain existing screening between the sit and adjoining residences.

Absolute attention to detail > In collaboration with Kerry Phelan Design Office, MAArchitects designed the interiors of the 'SEE' Apartments by Simon Stokes Architects. Every aspect of 'SEE's apartment design was carefully considered, such as including elements like laptop desk spaces and integrated joinery for maximising storage. We also assisted with the design of the public areas, including the rooftop garden and entertaining area

Reinterpreting European modernism > Our clients were 'downsizing' and wanted to retain the essence of their previous 1960's architect designed house, where a sense of craft, art and richness of detail were an intrinsic part. Their new, single level home references this legacy with a subtle, contemporary reinterpretation
